My philosophy of education is that all students are unique in many different ways, and therefore, they should be provided with a comprehensive educational environment in which they can grow mentally, emotionally, and socially strong. It is my ultimate goal to create an atmosphere where students can be happy to share their ideas and reach their full potentials. Through my personal teaching experiences, I get a thorough understanding of education, in which I value diversity and inclusion the most. I believe different students should have different choices and acquire their skills based on what they are good at and what they are interested in. How individuals apply the learning approaches and perspectives to their future life based on their own needs is more crucial than what they actually learn and gain from various classes. In addition, education not only prepares students for their creativities and the ability to reason and understand, but it also encourages students to be curious to explore the world outside, be firm in dreaming about the things that are not even real and be confident of accomplishing what they want in their hearts and what is meaningful to themselves. Education should be meaningful to students outside their classroom and even influence their choices of future life path. As an educator, I believe that my job is not only to teach students in the classroom regarding different kinds of subjects, but also to communicate with students to help students if they have any troubles in life.

To help every student to reach their own potential and find their own interests and advantages, I believe that there are five essential elements that are conducive to learning. (1) the instructor should guide students through the learning materials and discuss how each student can approach these learning processes differently instead of talking directly about every theory. (2) students should have access to different types of hands-on activities and try their best to participate in different activities, like the exercise of filling out handouts or small group discussion questions. (3) students should be encouraged to ask and answer any kind of questions no matter how they ask and answer them. (4) students should develop their skills and knowledge in a safe environment. (5) Technology should be incorporated into learning activities in order for students to get used to the learning process and find their own interests.

When I teach my communication students, the best way to accomplish my goals for me is to have small group discussions through a social constructivist approach to let students build their confidence. I believe that sharing ideas with one another is one crucial key faction providing students enough understanding of how communication generally works and how they can apply the concepts of learning to their real-life situations. A constructivist approach to learning requires a detailed assessment to identify the starting knowledge base and continuing evaluation of the student’s learning. Through observing the small group discussions, I am able to know how students are grasping the learning materials and adjust my teaching procedures based on how different students respond to the questions during small group discussions.
